Grandma’s Old-School Math Lesson
On a quiet Saturday afternoon, Grandma Eleanor decided it was time for a little mental exercise for the family. She sat in her favorite chair, glasses perched firmly on her nose, holding a card with a simple multiplication problem: 5 × 7 = ?
Her granddaughter, Lucy, sat cross-legged on the floor, pencil in hand, trying to work it out. Meanwhile, her son-in-law, Tim, lounged nearby, only half paying attention—until Grandma’s gaze shifted toward him.
“Alright, Tim,” she said with a sly smile, “why don’t you give it a try?”
Tim froze for a second, then raised his hand like a schoolboy caught off guard. “Uh… isn’t there an app for this sort of thing?” he asked hopefully.
Grandma’s eyebrows lifted, and she gave him the look. “Yes,” she replied, “but there’s also a brain, and it doesn’t need charging.”
Lucy giggled, and Tim sheepishly tried to remember his multiplication tables. The room filled with laughter, proving that sometimes, the best lessons are the ones that mix a little old-fashioned wisdom with a healthy dose of humor.
