After her father’s death, Dawn’s life changed completely. Charlotte, her sister, who had always been cold and aloof, kicked Dawn out of their shared home, which was a huge blow. Charlotte said that the house was hers because of their father’s will, and all Dawn got was an old watch that had belonged to their father.
Charlotte looked down on the watch, saying it was useless, even though it meant a lot to her. Dawn, on the other hand, loved the watch because it reminded her of how her father always wore it when he worked on automobiles or helped her with school tasks. Dawn felt unhappy, angry, and hopeless as she left the house.
Dawn remained in a cheap motel because she had nowhere else to go and was having trouble making ends meet. She was out of work, had no money saved up, and felt completely alone. She was so desperate that she called her father’s lawyer, expecting he would know how to help her get out of her dilemma.
The lawyer told Dawn something shocking: her father had given her a safety deposit box with about two million dollars in it. There was a catch, though: Charlotte had to let her stay in the mansion for the money to be hers. If Charlotte said no, the money would go to Dawn.
Dawn’s eyes got bigger when she realised her father had arranged for this to happen. The key to the deposit box was carved into the metal on the back of the watch. She cried because she could still feel her father’s love and protection even though he was dead.
Charlotte was upset when she found out Dawn’s secret since she knew she had done exactly what Dawn wanted. But Dawn didn’t care since she knew she was in charge. She wouldn’t give in to Charlotte’s demands, and in the end, Charlotte lost the house because she couldn’t make the payments.
Dawn, on the other hand, got a second chance at life. She walked into a little, cosy flat and felt free and thankful. She said, “Thank you, Dad,” as she looked down at her watch. Dawn had lost everything, but she had gained so much more: a sense of safety, freedom, and the assurance that her father had always been there for her.
