Grandma’s Love
Every Sunday, Emma would visit her grandmother’s little house at the end of Maple Lane. It smelled of freshly baked bread and lavender soap, and the moment she stepped through the door, the world seemed softer.
Her grandmother, always in her favorite lavender cardigan, would greet her with a warm hug and that familiar smile — the one that made Emma feel like the most loved person on earth. They would sit by the kitchen table, sipping tea, sharing stories, and sometimes saying nothing at all, because silence with Grandma was never uncomfortable.
As Emma grew older, the visits became less frequent. Life got busy — school, friends, work. Yet, Grandma never complained. She would just look at Emma with those kind, knowing eyes, as if to say, I understand, but I miss you.
One day, Emma received a small box in the mail. Inside was her grandmother’s heart-shaped locket and a note in delicate handwriting:
“My dear Emma, if you ever feel lost, hold this close. My love is always with you — no matter where you are, no matter how far. Love, Grandma.”
Tears welled in Emma’s eyes. She immediately drove to Maple Lane, only to find the house quiet. Her grandmother had passed away peacefully that morning.
In the weeks that followed, Emma wore the locket every day. And strangely, whenever she felt lonely, she could almost hear her grandmother’s laugh or smell the warm bread baking. It was as if her love lingered in every corner of Emma’s heart.
Years later, Emma had children of her own. She taught them the same recipes, told them the same bedtime stories, and wore the lavender cardigan on chilly nights. Her youngest once asked, “Mommy, why do you always smile when you wear that locket?”
Emma kissed her daughter’s forehead and said softly,
“Because it reminds me that love never leaves us. Your great-grandma loved me so much, and now I get to pass that love to you.”
That night, as Emma tucked her children into bed, she realized her grandmother’s love had never really gone anywhere — it had simply grown, multiplied, and filled an entire new generation.
And as she glanced at the stars outside the window, she whispered, “Thank you, Grandma. We’re still living in your love.”
